The Großglockner high alpine road leads you through the marvellous landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Here, north-west of Carinthia, lie Heiligenblut and Döllach. This is where the first ascent of the Großglockner started out from, which at 3,798 m is the highest mountain in Austria. Even today the region is regarded as the cradle of alpinism. Due to its height (1,300 - 2,900 m) and its location on the main chain of the Alps, the Heiligenblut ski region guarantees snow security until far into the spring. Nestled in one of the largest nature reserves in Central Europe lies the idyllic community of Grosskirchheim with the small town of Döllach (1,024 m). The ski area of Heiligenblut is only approx. 9 km away. Skiiers and snowboarders are sure to get their money's worth here. Anyone looking for off-piste variety has various recreational activities in Döllach to choose from. From a skating rink to tobogganing runs, right through to walkways and hiking trails; there's something for everyone. Snowy forests, cleared winter hiking paths and cross-country trails invite you to partake in romantic strolls or tour along the mountain rivers. | Snow-sure and, above all, nearly empty pistes can be found in the Heiligenblut – Großglockner ski region, paired with a unique mountain panorama. Skiers, snowboarders and carvers get their money's worth here. The steep pistes from the Schareck peak to the Fallbichl is a true challenge, even for the pros. Due to the pistes mainly lying above the tree-line, afficionados have the opportunity to take a trip into the deep powder snow, right next to the pistes. 55 km of diverse runs, 1,000 m in altitude or 3,500 metres in length to be mastered in one run - here you can prove your abilities. |
