The impressive massifs of both Wilder and Zahmer Kaiser form the spectacular setting for the region of Kaiserwinkl with its winter sports resorts. The region which is directly on the border to Germany has recently developed into a true winter sport paradise. In total, 30 kilometres of piste provide an attractive range for skiers as well as snowboarders. The longest of these pistes measures 7 km and has a difference in altitude of over 1,100 m! Cross-country skiers will find all types of cross-country trails on one of Europe's largest cross-country trail networks. The romantic village of Schwendt lies at an altitude of around 700 m. It is the nearest to the flanks of the Wilder Kaiser and is an absolute pardise. Instead of mass tourism, here you will experience pure relaxation and rest. There are no large hotels, rather cosy, familiar pensions. The corresponding ski area Unterberghorn is located in Kössen and has more then 30 kilometres of piste and 10 lifts, which transport you to the dominantly easy to medium runs. The rustic taverns offer a homelike and relaxed atmosphere and invite you in to feast and savour.
