In front of the breathtaking panorama of the Loferer Steinberge mountains with the highest point of the Ochsenhorn (2,513 m) lie the cosy villages of Lofer and Unken. Nestled in the Saalachtal, the villages became popular winter sports destinations due to the close proximity of the Loferer Alm and Unken-Heutal ski areas, with more than 58 kilometres of piste and 17 lifts! The region offers a magnificent mountain panorama as well as a diverse range of recreational activities with sports or culture. Unken at an altitude of around 564 m, at the foot of the 1,961 m high Sonntagshorn. The idyllic community is especially attractive for holidaymakers who prefer to spend their holiday more quietly. The Heutal valley, in which Unken lies, is snow-sure and is the ideal winter paradise for downhill and cross-country skiiers, as well as sun worshippers. The ski area is sure not to be overcrowded, and is especially suitable for families with its easy and medium-level pistes. Off-piste, history lovers will find the Kniepass Fortress is worth seeing, which was built in the 13th century and lets you have a glimpse of the history of Unken and the Salzburger Land.

Right in the heart of the Salzburger Saalachtal lies Lofer with its ski area Loferer Alm/Heutal, which is perfect für those skiiers who want to savour the experience. The 58 km of dominantly easy to medium level pistes run from 639 - 1,747 m in altitude. A total of 17 lift systems are available to comfortably transport you. Thanks to the numerous snowmaking systems in the lower areas and the snow-sure pistes on the Loferer Alm, the valley run is ensured for up to 128 days in the year. The wide, soft pistes of the Loferer Alm are virtually perfect for ski and snowboard beginners! In the Heutal valley by Unken you will find marvellous powder snow runs and anyone up for the challenge can take on the Hochwena-Alpin piste: this black run leads over the steep northern slopes at the Grubhörndl. The 9 km long valley run from the Loferer Alm offers pure ski enjoyment!
